Shane Reynolds Plants “Lady Clare” Potatoes at Tara Co.Meath

The recent fine weather meant that potato growers across the country have been working night and day to get this season’s crop planted. It is hoped that this year will be a good year for growers, as the past three seasons have been difficult to say the least. Growers are constantly looking for ways to reduce costs, while maintaining tuber quality and yield. Neutrog’s Seamungus, is manufactured using seaweed from Connemara, manure and humic acid.

Meath Potato grower Pat Reynolds is trying Seamungus this year on 10 acres at Tara Co.Meath. The Seamungus was applied at a rate of 1 tonne per hectare and was spread using a sulky 1 tonne spreader, which was calibrated prior to application. The crop variety is Lady Clare and the potatoes will be sold to Largo Foods for crisping. Pat’s son Shane said “ We are always looking for ways to improve the quality of our crops. Large customers such as Largo pay a premium for certain characteristics such as high dry matter, so a product like Seamungus could really improve the return we get from this crop.”

Neutrog passes the spread test !!

Since Neutrog Fertilisers were launched on the Irish agricultural market in early 2010 there has been a great response from Irish farmers, who are very willing to give Neutrog a try. One of the questions we were being regularly asked was “how far will it spread”. Most tillage farmers require a 24m spread, and some were concerned that Neutrog products such as Rapid Raiser and Seamungus wouldn't go the distance.

To reassure farmers Neutrog’s Con Farren asked Trevor Richards of Atkins Machinery to do a spread test using trays, on 2 types of fertiliser spreader, a Bredal Trailed speader and a Lely Centerliner. Trevor was surprised at how well Neutrog Rapid Raiser spread with both machines, particularly given the fact that the day of the test was quite windy.

The Bredal was set-up to spread 24m and the trays showed that there was an even spread accross this distance. The Centreliner was set up for a 12m spread and also resulted in a perfect spread pattern. Con said “It was important that we carried out this test, as it gives farmers the 100% assurance that Neutrog Fertilisers can be spread accurately, and to the required distances.”

Seamungus to Appear on the Alan Titchmarsh Show on ITV1

Northern Ireland Rose Society Endorse Sudden Impact for Roses

After a year of trialling Sudden Impact for Roses, the Rose Society of Northern Ireland have agreed to endorse the product.

Norman Beck of the Rose Society said “We have all been extremely impressed with the performance of Sudden Impact for Roses this year, and we are delighted to endorse the product. We look forward to working with Neutrog in the future, and we believe we can each help each other grow and develop.” Niall Reynolds of Neutrog said that he also was delighted with the partnership, and that he had really enjoyed meeting and working with the members of the society.

Seamungus does the Business

Meath potato farmer Pat Reynolds tried Seamungus this season on 10 acres of Lady Claire Potatoes at Tara Co.Meath.

The area treated with Seamungus produced an extra yield of 1.4 tonnes per acre, and the uniformity of size was noticeable as compared with the untreated area.

The Seamungus was used at a rate of 1 tonne per hectare, and was spread using a sulky fertiliser spreader.

South Africa meets Ireland

On a recent holiday to Europe, Alwyn Badenhorst, who is a Customer Relationship Manager with Neutrog South Africa, took some time to visit the new factory of Neutrog Ireland, and meet Niall Reynolds, Managing Director. Alwyn has been working for Neutrog for the past 3 years, and worked for a Neutrog distributor before that. Niall was delighted to hear about how Neutrog has grown in South Africa, and was amazed to hear that over 20,000 tonnes were produced there last year.

Niall said “It’s great to speak to Alwyn about the progress in South Africa, and to learn how this was achieved. It’s very exciting to think that we could achieve similar results here over the next few years, and extremely valuable to learn from the experiences in both South Africa and Australia”.

Alwyn commented on the similarities of the landscapes in Ireland and in the region in South Africa where he lives. He also said “I am very impressed with the new factory that Niall has set up here in Ireland, and I am extremely confident that Neutrog Ireland will be just as successful as our business in South Africa”.

Niall hopes to visit Neutrog South Africa in the near future.

Neutrog Hits the Shelves !!!

After nearly 2 years of hard work and planning, Neutrog Fertilisers have arrived on the shelves in Garden Centres around Ireland.

There has been a great response to Neutrog products across the country, with particular interest in Seamungus, which has been flying off the shelves. Despite the doom and gloom in the economy, people seem to be going back to their roots, and back into their gardens.

The runaway success of Neutrog can be in some way attributed to the organic nature of Neutrog products, along with the fact that all of our products are made entirely here in Ireland.
